Do You “Know” Jesus? Sermon Notes

Sermon 2 in our Easter Series, "Crucified To Live"

John 17:1-3: (1) After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that you your Son may glorify you. (2) For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. (3) Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Do I know Jesus, or do I _______ _______ Jesus?

Matthew 16:15-16 - 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Matthew 16:23 - 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

Matthew 28:20 - 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 16:24 - 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

John 14:15 - 15 “If you love me, keep my commands.

John 15:14 - 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.

1 John 5:2-3 - This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome

Luke 11:28 - 28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

James 1:25 - 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

James 2:17 - 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

If I know Jesus, my _______ and _______ demonstrate I am alive in Christ.

Galatians 2:20 - 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
