A Mother’s Dance Sermon Notes

Sermon 2 of our "Dancing With God" series

Luke 2:16-19 - (16) So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.  (17) When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,  (18) and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.  (19) But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Luke 2:41-51 - (41) Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover.  (42) When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. (43) After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. (44) Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. (45) When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. (46) After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.  (47) Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. (48) When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”  (49) “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”  (50) But they did not understand what he was saying to them. (51) Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.

John 19:25-27 - (25) Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.  (26) When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,here is your son,” (27) and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

Acts 1:13-14 - (13) When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. (14)They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
