Kenny's Korner - I'd Rather Hug A Porcupine

by Kenny Rader

you can’t quite wrap your mind around that one can you?

There are quite a few things in life that you can’t wrap your mind around. Can you hug a full-size, living and active crocodile and live to tell about it? Can you hug a wild, fully alive and active stinky skunk? Can you wrap your mind around hugging either the crocodile or the skunk?

can’t wrap our minds around many things

Maybe just as difficult as hugging a porcupine is trying to wrap your mind around things such as . . . How did Kim Kardashian get paid $53 million in 2015? (Does anyone really care?) She certainly didn’t do anything to earn that kind of money, so how do you explain her income? And while we’re on the Kardashians, what about Bruce? Or is it Caitlyn? No, I hear that he might return to becoming a “he” again. Or will he remain a she? No, sorry, he can never be a she because God created him a he. And then there is Kim’s daddy, Robert, who helped defend O. J. Simpson. Was O. J. guilty? O. J. and all of his attorneys were certainly guilty of something.

Was justice really served? Why is pizza round but it’s placed in a square box? In school, why do teachers and professors give every grade from A-D and even an F, but never an E? Why did E get skipped? When given an “I,” at least it means incomplete, so why not an “E” for excellence? Why do we buy a pair of pants, yet we only get one? What does “pair” of pants even mean? Do you have a difficult time wrapping your mind around these things?

can’t wrap our minds around some people’s ideas

People say that our country’s constitution is outdated. Really? Their underlying motive is so they can make changes to the law that please them. They want to degrade me and shut me up and that is okay, but when I speak God’s Word to them, they call it offensive speech and I and get thrown into jail? Can you wrap your mind around their logic?

Guns are bad but people aren’t? Will changing our constitution and the amendments change the outcome of people who choose to do evil? Will less people actually die if we ban guns? Will we ban planes, trains, and cars also, all of which can become missiles and bombs of sorts?

can you wrap your mind around some people’s thinking?

How about marriage? Many people say they cannot live with one person an entire lifetime by being married to them, so their answer is to live in a sexual relationship outside of marriage. Does that actually solve anything? Maybe that relationship resolves the issue of divorce, but how about the problems it causes for their children? Are the so-called “experts” correct in saying it is best that parents don’t stay together because it causes too much stress on their children? Can you wrap your mind around it?

Let’s talk about homosexuality and same-sex marriage. Is it really okay to be in a homosexual relationship? Some say it’s all right as long as the “couple” is in love? Really? Lawmakers say that homosexual couples can adopt children or conceive by artificial insemination and that has no negative or harmful impact on their children, the community or the nation? As a Christian, can you wrap your mind around that?

can’t wrap our minds around god and the moral law not existing

Many say God is dead or never even existed. Is God dead? Did He ever really exist or is He only a figment of our wishful imagination? If He does exist, is He relevant? Has the Bible become irrelevant? Consider the following passages from Romans 1 and Hebrews 13.

20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

– Romans 1:20

4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” 6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” 7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings.

– Hebrews 13:4-9

While these 2 passages do not address all the issues some people try to distort, it does give us a basis for an argument we can wrap our minds around.

First, God is real and visible to everyone (Rom. 1:20). Nothing about God and the Bible has changed over the course of history. People haven’t wanted to believe in God in the past so people are no different today than they were ages ago.

Second, marriage was under assault two thousand years ago just as it is under assault today. God will judge “all” sexually immoral people (Heb. 13:4). He will judge both adulterers and those in homosexual relationships.

Third, God has promised to be with us (Heb. 13:5-6), meaning that we are in for some tough times.

Fourth, Jesus/ God is the same today as He was in the beginning of time (Heb. 13:8).

Fifth, they were instructed not to permit ungodly teachings lead them astray (Heb. 13:9). The same applies to us.

wrap your mind around the battle

We are in a tough battle against Satan. He is out to destroy us and he is doing it from within our souls and from within the heart of our country. He is hitting us from within by slowly making us susceptible to sinful thinking. The Church begins to falter when we accept America’s waning culture even though the Bible teaches against it. We falter because we do not read and study God’s Word and use that Word as our foundation.

America falters when Christians fail to stand upon God’s truths. If Satan can weaken Christians’ belief in God and His teaching, he can weaken our nation. We are in a battle for our lives. We are in a battle for our children’s lives. We are in a battle for America. America is 240-years-old this July 4. Will America turn the corner and never come back as a godly nation? Church – will we let America fall on our watch?

America’s future is in our hands. There are many things that we cannot wrap our minds around that have rapidly become accepted during the past couple of decades. Did you ever imagine such moral deterioration could happen so quickly? Will the words to that grand old song, America the Beautiful, change from *“God shed His grace on thee” to God shed His tears on thee, or worse yet, God turn His back on thee?

wrap your mind around god’s word

America’s morals seem to be heading for the sewer and godlessness seems to become more and more prevalent. You know what? I would rather embrace a porcupine in a great big hug than embrace the ungodliness of our nation. The one thing we can still hold on to, stand firm upon, and wrap our minds around is God and His Word. God’s Word is the only thing that still makes sense.

Every aspect of life falls apart if you take God out of it. Laws only make sense when they are based on God’s principles. The God-based marriage of one man and one woman still has the greatest benefits over any other idea. Recognizing that “things” don’t kill but people do keeps us centered on the best ways to resolve senseless acts of violence. As long as we keep God front and center, and as long as we follow the teachings of God, we will live the best life possible. And that is something we can wrap our minds around.

Love ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
